Don’t Fall for These Common Roof Maintenance Myths

HomeBlogDon’t Fall for These Common Roof Maintenance Myths

Investing in regular roof maintenance is a key part of your property upkeep, but here at Chico Roofing Company, we’ve noticed that there are several myths about roof maintenance that people unwittingly fall for. In this post, we’ll take some time to debunk a few of the most prevalent roof maintenance myths to help you ensure you’re providing your roof with all the care it needs.

Don’t Fall for These Common Roof Maintenance Myths

Myth #1: You only need to inspect your roof when you know there’s a problem.

Although you certainly want to address known issues promptly, taking a passive approach and only scheduling roofing inspections when you notice a problem can lead to costly repairs that you could have easily avoided. To spare your roof and wallet the hassle of expensive (and preventable) repairs, include regular inspections as part of your routine roof maintenance plan.

Myth #2: Cleaning your roof with a pressure washer is safe and effective.

Although pressure washing may be effective at removing dirt and grime, it’s also extremely good at removing particles like shingle granules. Pressure washing can also damage the flashing, gutters, and other key roofing elements, so it’s best to stick with a gentler option, such as soft washing.

Myth #3: Roof maintenance is only about the shingles.

While the shingles are an important part of your roofing, they’re far from the only thing your roof maintenance plan needs to address. Inspecting, cleaning, and repairing areas like the gutters, flashing, vents, and other roof protrusions, such as skylights or chimneys, should also be included in your roof maintenance plan.

Myth #4: Roof maintenance is not worth the cost.

If you’re only scheduling roof maintenance sporadically or when you notice a problem, it can feel like it’s too expensive to invest in on a regular basis. However, early intervention saves you money in the long run by stopping small problems from becoming worse and more expensive.
